Notice of .Travel Policy Changes
The Travel Partnership Corporation (TTPC) has approved some very important policy changes to take effect December 21, 2007 that may affect you.

As of December 21, 2007 companies that have been authenticated as eligible travel businesses or organizations as well as individual agents will be allowed to register any available .travel domain name directly through .travel approved registrar (trademark laws apply). http://www.travel.travel/dnr.htm

To access the .travel application and authentication form go to: http://www.authentication.travel/index.jsp?ap=trap. Here you will be able to apply for your authenticated UIN number which will allow you to purchase your requested names from an approved registrar.

Travel organizations that have already applied for or registered a .travel domain name and have a confirmed UIN can go directly to any of our approved registrars at: http://www.travel.travel/dnr.htm to request and purchase additional names.

Travel organizations who have been unable to register a desired domain name, due to the strict .travel policies, will now have the opportunity to register those names (if available) starting December 21st.

There are two important places you can visit now to determine what .travel domain names you might be interested in are still available.
  • http://www.whois.travel/ - go here to enter any domain names you are interested in. This site will tell you if a name is available and if not, who has registered it.
  • http://www.authentication.travel/reserved.jsp - this is an important site to be aware of because it shows ‘Place Names and Industry Terms’ that are currently reserved and not available for registration. This is important because if you type in a name that is on this list in the Whois link above it may show the name you type in as not registered giving you the impression that it is available, which is not the case because it is a reserved name. This, however, will change on December 21 when the new policy will result in most of these names being released for general registration.

All policy changes and more can be found at http://www.ttpc.travel/ and http://travel.travel.

If you have any questions about the changes, please send an email to support@authentication.travel.
Step by Step Guide To Authentication

    1. Go to www.uma.org and log into the "Member’s Only" section.
    2. Click on ".travel Information"
    3. Click on "Click here to become authenticated"
    4. Fill out the authentication form and hit submit.
    5. Once you hit submit, the website will generate a list of possible domain names you can use for your businesses that end in .travel. For example, if your company is Jones Charter and Tours, you might receive several names such as ww.jonescharterandtrours.travel or www.jonesct.travel or www.jones-charter-tours.travel or something similar.
    6. If a name you would like is not on the generated list you may request it. In order to receive the additional domain name(s), you must submit documentation that you're entitled to that domain name. This may be a company bill, your business license, or a URL/web address you already own. (.travel names must be associated with your business. You cannot purchase random .travel names like you can with .com names.)
    7. Once you submit your application, UMA will approve your company as well as any additional names you may have applied for. You will then receive an email with your UIN, unique identification number.
    8. Next step is to registrar your names. You must use a pre-approved registrar. A list of registrars can be found under the "Member’s Only" section of www.uma.org. Make sure you have your UIN number when registering.
    9. Domain names with the .travel ending will be assigned on a first come first served basis...So the sooner you complete the paperwork, the more likely you are to get the .travel domain name you want.
    10. So don't delay. Go to www.uma.org and get started with applying for your .travel domain name today!
